In one of the biggest encounter in recent times, Bhaskar Kalita, the Officer in Charge of Bordumsa Police Station in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district, martyred during a fierce gun battle between ULFA-(I) cadres and the security forces in Tinsukia’s Bordumsa on Friday night.
A fierce gun battle between United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent ULFA-(I) cadres and the security forces took place late on Friday evening.
On receiving information about the presence of ULFA-Independent cadres led by hardcore ULFA leader Rupom Asom in a house near Bordumsa, Assam Police and Cobra Battalion of CRPF, led by Bhaskar Kalita, raided the area.
With the security forces cordoning off the area, the insurgents opened fire at them and in the exchange of bullets Bhaskar Kalita was killed in action. The body of Bhaskar Kalita bore 5 bullet injury marks.
Meanwhile, security forces have cordoned off the area and combing operations are on to hunt down the militants who escaped from the encounter site.
