Assam BJP leader and state Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that doors are open for AGP if it returns to NDA fold.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times over the Asom Gana Parishad’s decision to withdraw support to the Assam government over the contentious Citizenship Bill, which seeks to give citizenship rights to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the likely impact of this issue on the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Sarma said the regional party is more than welcome to rejoin the NDA if it wants to.
Terming the AGP as a natural ally, Sarma said BJP will never be hostile to the AGP.
Sarma’s remark comes barely a day after AGP president Atul Bora said the party can consider realigning with the BJP if the Centre scraps the Contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill.
The AGP had announced its decision to snap ties with the BJP last week in protest against the Centre’s decision to push for the Citizenship Bill.
