Congress party’s Assam in-charge Harish Rawat has resigned from the post of General Secretary, while taking responsibility for the poor performance of the party in the Lok Sabha elections.

Rawat tendered his resignation on Thursday. Rawat’s resignation comes within a day of Rahul Gandhi quitting as the party chief.

Rahul Gandhi officially stepped down as Congress President on July 3. Gandhi made his resignation letter public, saying accountability was critical to the future growth of the party.
