Assam: Construction work for 7 cancer hospitals in first phase to begin from August

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the contract for the construction of 7 (seven) cancer hospitals in the first phase has been awarded to construction company

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the contract for the construction of 7 (seven) cancer hospitals in the first phase has been awarded to construction company L&T after proper bidding process.

The initial project cost is estimated at 736 crore rupees and the construction will start from August this year. The cancer hospitals would come up under the Assam government’s joint venture initiative with Tata Trust.

15 cancer hospitals would be built in Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Jorhat, Darrang, Barpeta, Diphu, Dhubri and Barak Valley. The Guwahati cancer hospital would be upgraded under the initiative.

Assam Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal would perform the ground breaking ceremony next month to start the construction work for the cancer hospital in Dibrugarh. Sarma said that land acquisition for the remaining six is underway.
