Amit Shah to visit Guwahati tomorrow for NEC plenary session

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be arriving in Guwahati tomorrow on a two-day visit to chair the 68th plenary session of the North East Council.

Governors and Chief Ministers of all the eight Northeastern states will be attending the meeting.

Meanwhile, this will be Amit Shah’s first visit to Assam after becoming the Home Minister.

According to reports, Amit Shah will also preside over a meeting of the North East Democratic Alliance. NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma will also be present in the meeting.

Shah’s visit assumes significance in the wake of the recent release of the final NRC list from which over 19 lakh applicants have been excluded.

It has been learnt from sources that the Assam BJP leadership will meet Home Minister Amit Shah demanding legislative action to protect bonafide citizens whose names did not figure in the final NRC.
