Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese, Most Reverend Dominic Jala died in a road accident in Colusa County, California in USA.

Jala was accompanied by two more gentlemen, Father Mathew Vellankal and father Parekkatt. While Mathhew Vellankal also succumbed to injuries obtained, Father Parekkatt is in a serious condition and is currently undergoing treatment.

According to reports, the accident took place while the car was travelling to Clearlake when it got hit by a semi-truck.

Reverend Jala was born on July 12, 1951 at Mawlai and was appointed as Archbishop of Shillong on December 22, 1999.

Northeast Live spoke to two fathers of Churches in Shillong, who said that the process of bringing back the mortal remains is going to take another 4-5 days at least and until then the city will mourn the demise and masses will be held across churches in Shillong in remembrance of Father Dominic Jala.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the death of Rev. Dominic Jala. In a tweet Modi said, “Anguished by the passing away of Most Rev. Dominic Jala, the Archbishop of Shillong. He will be remembered for his impeccable service to society and passion towards Meghalaya’s progress. May his soul rest in peace”.
