An FIR has been filed at the Itanagar Women’s police station where a woman has put allegations of rape on BJP MLA Goruk Pordung.

As per the FIR, which was lodged on October 13, the alleged incident of rape took place on October 12 at a city hotel in Itanagar.

In her complaint, the victim has stated that the MLA had called her to the hotel room to discuss some matter related to primary health center in his constituency. It was under that pretext that the incident of rape allegedly happened.

Capital SP Tumme Amo has confirmed that an FIR has been filed in this regard and an inquiry is to be initiated. He also said that the FIR was filed a day after the matter was reported because the police had to do some preliminary enquiry of its own.

Meanwhile, a counter complaint has been filed at the police station by the MLA Goruk Pordung regarding the matter. In his complaint letter, the BJP MLA has stated that he is being framed in a false case.

Goruk Pordung is a first time MLA from the 8th Bameng ST assembly constituency. He had fought and won against former home minister Kumar Waii in the last state polls.

The Arunachal BJP has distanced itself from the rape-accused party MLA. Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live over the phone, state BJP Vice president Dominic Tadar said the law will take its own course as far as the allegations against the party MLA is concerned.

Dominic Tadar said that the matter is currently under investigation. He also informed that the victim’s husband was a strong supporter of the MLA.
