Today is the 450th death anniversary of renowned Vaishnav saint of Assam, Srimanta Sankardev.

People all across the state observed the occasion with prayer meets at various Vaishnav Sattras and Namghars.

As in the rest of Assam, the river island of Majuli which houses some of the most prominent Sattras of the state, is gearing up for a three day long observance of the occasion.

Most of the Sattras and Namghars of Assam have already started to reverberate with sounds of traditional Harinaam, Borgeet, Bhortaal and other such popular mode of traditional prayers associated with the creed started by the Vaishnav saint.

Meanwhile, people are observing the 450th death anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev in Assam’s Lakhimpur with all gaiety and fervour.
