Along with the occasion of Maha Navami, Kati Bihu or Kongali Bihu is being observed today across Assam to mark the beginning of a new harvest.

During the occasion, people light earthen lamps at the foot of the household tulsi plant, akash bonti or earthen lamps held up on a pole is placed at paddy fields to mark the occasion and seek blessings for the harvest.

Kati Bihu is one of the three Bihu’s that the people of Assam observe. This Bihu falls in the Assamese month of Kati and in the month of mid-October.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to twitter and wished the people of the state on the occasion.
