The flood situation has worsened in Assam with more than 26 lakh people now affected by the deluge across 28 districts.
According to an Assam Disaster Management report, the total number of people affected is 26,45,533. As many as 3,181 villages have been affected by the deluge even as the death toll has risen to 11.
Among the districts affected by the deluge are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar, Dhubri and West Karbi Anglong.
An alarming, 87,607 hectares of crops have been damaged, due to floods so far. The floods have also taken a toll on animals with over 15 lakh affected by it.
Approximately 90% of the Kaziranga National Park has been affected in the second wave of floods. Animals have moved to highlands and forest officials along with district and sub-divisional administrations have been put on alert.
Teams of the NDRF and the SDRF are stationed at various flood-affected locations for search and rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level mark in Guwahati. Water overflowing from the river has now entered the fish market in Uzanbazar. If the high rate of spurt continues, the Fancy Bazaar area might also get affected.
