Tripura Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb seeking to surrender his security cover.

The Health Minister’s move comes in the wake of brutal assault on doctors and health staff of the Indira Gandhi Memorial hospital by an unruly mob on April 11 besides other similar incidents in the recent past.

In his letter, Barman mentioned that it was improper and unethical for him to move with escort at a time when doctors and other staff have been reeling under fear psychosis.

However, the Health Minister is still awaiting Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s response to his letter.

Meanwhile, the Tripura High court has cancelled the bail of 5 persons who were arrested for their involvement in the April 11 incident.

The development came after the state government moved a petition in a bid to pacify the crisis as doctors besides other staff of the IGM hospital ceased to work.

However, this has raised questions if there is an ongoing tussle between Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman.

This assumes significance as top sources have revealed that the chief minister and the Health Minister were having differences well before the Tripura assembly elections.
